The great outdoors is what the Hawkesbury
Valley is all about. Escape the pace and stress of the city
and enjoy some of the many activities on offer in the region.
Whether it is action packed, adrenalin pumping action, or
quieter, more relaxed recreation, the Hawkesbury Valley can
offer it all.
Canoeing/Kayaking
In the Hawkesbury, you can't really avoid the river! So take
advantage of it and try an afternoon canoeing. Either hire
a canoe and head upstream on your own, or join a guided kayak
tour. The countryside and sites along the river are truly
breathtaking.
Bushwalking
More than 80% of the Hawkesbury Valley area is National Park
or Reserve so there is a wealth of great walking tracks -
of all distances and all levels of ability. The Wollemi National
Park stretches from the Hawkesbury Valley to the Hunter Valley
covering more than 200,000 hectares.
The Great North Road lies within Yengo and Darug National
Parks in the lower Portland and Wisemans Ferry region. Walks
include the Finch's Line - a slightly tougher 9km walk with
access form Wiseman's Ferry Road.
Ten minutes from Richmond is the village of Kurrajong which
borders onto the Blue Mountains National Park and the Greater
Blue Mountains World Heritage area. There is a range of walking
trails through this region ranging from hard through to very
easy.
Mountain Bike and
Trail Rides
Don't fancy walking, then mountain bikes or trail riding are
other great alternatives on offer in the Hawkesbury Valley.
Join a guided tour and explore the local wilderness areas,
with guides to help you find Aboriginal rock art and some
of the more timid of the native wildlife.
Golf
The Hawkesbury Valley is also a golfers mecca with seven golf
courses including the 18 hole Championship course at Windsor
Golf Club, or the new Kurrajong Hills Golf Course.
4WD Adventures
The Hawkesbury Valley is one of the most scenic parts of NSW
and 4WD tours of the Parks and surroundings areas will give
you access to some of the more remote and difficult parts
to visit on foot.
Go Karts
The Indy 800 Kart Track at Wilberforce has motorized go-karts
of 4 stroke or 2 stroke power which can reach safe speeds
of 65km per hour. Suitable for kids from 12 years of age,
the "indy" track is a great way to use up excess
energy.
Explore the Hawkesbury Valley - it has so
much to offer.
