Kurmond is located approximately 70 kilometres northwest of Sydney. It is located in the City of Hawkesbury between Kurrajong and North Richmond.

Famous residents included Rowland 'Rowley' McMahon after whom McMahons Lane is named. Rowley McMahon founded a bus company after walking home from the then Grose Vale train station at the end of the Second World War, which then went on to become Westbus.

Originally known as Longleat, Kurmond is a derivative of neighboring town names Kurrajong and Richmond.
