The Joan will again bridge geographical distance as two events are streamed live from Sydney Opera House's Talks and Ideas Program, All About Women.

Featuring culture-shakers, innovative thinkers and storytellers, the satellite program aims to reach people from all over the state to invigorate discussion on issues and ideas that matter most to women.

Start the morning with Academy Award-winner Geena Davis as she shares her hard won insight into Hollywood and the global film industry in her Women and Media presentation. Geena will discuss how far we still need to travel before girls can see the variety of women they want to become in the films they watch, the shows they stream, the media they absorb every day - and why this is so important for young audiences the world over. How does film and TV culture reproduce gender stereotypes? And how can we change the industry so it reflects and celebrates real women and girls?

Have your say as this talk is followed by audience discussion led by our host Andrea Turner-Boys, the Founder of Women With Altitude, giving you the chance to voice your opinions, concerns and issues on how our young girls are being portrayed and what it means to us all!

Hear what Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Van Badham, Lindy West and panel chair Fauziah Ibrahima have to say as they discuss Nasty Women and what happens when women stop attempting to conform.

Being a woman with opinions and a will to succeed can get you called "nasty", "hysterical" and "bossy" - all labels deployed to try to put women in their place! This panel, will discuss what happens when women stop being afraid of these labels and start wearing them as a badge of honour – becoming ‘nasty women’.

Andrea Turner-Boys will again engage you in discussion of the tag Nasty Women, what it means and how it affects you.

Grab a friend or come by yourself and meet other like-minded people in a relaxed, informal environment as you share your thoughts on what matters to us. An event to be remembered, enjoy lunch, a glass of wine and coffee – all included in the ticket price.

At $10 only, tickets sell out fast, so don’t miss out book now so you too can be heard!
